When it comes to body ideals, everyone has a different opinion on what looks best. And that’s fine. It’s all part of celebrating everyone’s uniqueness. However, regardless of whether someone may be considering a breast augmentation, liposuction, or a Brazilian Butt Lift, they may be wondering about how, exactly, their body will change? In addition to having a new look, will you have to deal with scars?
Where are the incisions made during cosmetic enhancements?
Some cosmetic procedures — such as injectables and Coolsculpting — do not require any incisions at all. However, those that do could have them in different locations, depending on the type of treatment. If you’re having a traditional facelift, there is typically a hairline incision at the temples, going down behind the ears.
If you’re having a liposuction, the incision location will vary depending on the type of liposuction you’re getting, as well as the body part being enhanced. Good locations are usually at the navel, pubic area, or the middle of the back. For breast augmentation, the incision is made at the base of the breast or around the areola. That said, at Innovations Medical, we offer natural breast augmentation by transferring fat from other body parts. The fat is removed from a location of your body you’d like to contour, then injected into the breasts. Since most breast tissue is composed of fat, this type of procedure results in a more natural look.
If you’re looking into a Brazilian Butt Lift, fat is also transferred from another body part into your buttocks. Since the transferred fat is injected into your derrière, it does not require an incision. And, because you’re using your own fat to increase the size of your buttocks, there’s no risk of your body rejecting it — unlike what can happen with implants.
How long do the scars of cosmetic procedures last?
Traditionally, scars from breast augmentation and butt lift procedures do not fully fade over time. Yet, because we offer fat transfer options, you obtain the look you want without having to worry about incisions around these areas. That said, the fat that’s harvested from other body parts is extracted via liposuction. The scars from these types of incisions will fade between six months to a year. They are usually shorter than an inch, and you can apply topical gels as well as undergo microdermabrasion, cryotherapy, or laser therapy to make them less noticeable.
If you’re having a breast reduction surgery, scars will minimize over time and will be barely noticeable at around the year mark. If you’re having a breast lift or reconstruction, the scars will continue fading for up to a year, but won’t disappear completely.
As for a recovery timeframe, generally speaking, a person who undergoes a cosmetic procedure starts feeling well enough to resume their regular routines within a few days but it is best to wait two weeks after treatment before resuming exercise. Also, your doctor will give you specific instructions about how to best care for yourself and what to expect — such as swelling and/or having to wear a supportive bra.
