What Is a Vampire Facial?

The vampire facial, also known as the PRP facial, is a powerful anti-aging treatment used by Dr. Johnson to erase skin damage, fine lines, and wrinkles, and give you great-looking skin for eternity – or at least a really long time.

The vampire facial is not as scary as it sounds. In fact, once you learn about its amazing benefits, you may want to call us to schedule your appointment. A vampire facial has powerful anti-aging benefits, using platelets to reduce signs of aging.

What is a Vampire PRP Facial?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) facials have become a common type of medical-grade facial. PRP facials have become in the last few years as celebrities have reported using PRP facials. There are several methods of helping PRP penetrate through the skin barrier in order to rejuvenate and enhance the skin. One popular method is called micro-needling. Micro-needling uses hundreds of small needles to make thousands of small holes in the skin. The needles call little to no pain. PRP is then applied over the treated area. Similar PRP facials have been done after resurfacing lasers like Fraxel or especially SmartXide Dot laser. The most common PRP facial is direct injection into the face. Tiny needles similar to Botox needles are used to inject the PRP directly into the lower skin of the face. These give great results.

What Happens During the Vampire PRP Facial?

During the vampire facial, Dr. Johnson takes a small amount of blood (hence its name) and separates out the platelets along with growth factors from the rest of the blood cells. Platelets are plate-shaped cells in the blood that form blood clots in response to damaged blood vessels. Growth factors are powerful chemical “text messages” that tell the body to repair tissue and promote healing. This platelet and growth factor combination is known as PRP or platelet-rich plasma. After the platelets and growth factors are separated out from the rest of the blood, they are then injected back into the face with very small needles during a skin rejuvenating micro-needling procedure that also adds radio-frequency energy.

What Does a Vampire Facial Do?

The vampire PRP facial can stimulate the growth of new stem cells, reduce acne scarring and improve skin quality and texture. In combination with micro-needling, PRP is a powerful skin rejuvenation therapy. Microneedling with radiofrequency kicks off the body’s natural healing response and increases collagen production, tightening the skin and smoothing wrinkles and fine lines. The procedure is minimally invasive and does not require frequent maintenance like some fillers and other injectables. Also, because the procedure uses the patient’s own cells, there is no risk of allergic reaction or rejection.

Does the Vampire PRP Facial Hurt?

The micro-needling portion of the PRP facial is not uncomfortable, so no numbing is required to reduce discomfort. Patients can expect skin tenderness, photosensitivity and maybe slight swelling for a few days after the procedure. This typically alleviates quickly, leaving behind radiant and youthful-looking skin.
