Awake Arm Liposuction in Dallas
Many people avoid sleeveless tops because of fullness in the upper arms, the area that keeps moving after you’ve stopped waving. Even with strength training, the fat on the back of the upper arm is often the last to change. Awake arm liposuction slims and reshapes the upper arms under local anesthesia, so you stay comfortable and alert, without general anesthesia, and go home the same day.
Innovations Medical has offered awake liposuction in Dallas since 2007, and Dr. Bill Johnson and our team have completed 6,000+ awake liposuction cases.

Why arm fat resists diet and exercise
Triceps work builds the muscle underneath, but it doesn’t burn the fat layer on top of it. Genetics and hormones strongly influence how much fat the upper arms store, which is why arm fullness often runs in families and becomes more noticeable after pregnancy, around menopause, or with age. If your arms are out of proportion to the rest of your body despite a healthy routine, liposuction can address the fat directly. See also how to lose arm fat.
What awake arm liposuction treats
- Back of the upper arm (posterior arm): the most common area
- Inner arm: fullness near the armpit that shows when your arms are at your sides
- Outer upper arm and shoulder transition
- Axillary (armpit) fat: often treated with the arms for a seamless line into the side of the chest. See the axilla section of our back liposuction page
The goal is a slimmer, more tapered arm that blends naturally into the shoulder and the bra-line area, not a hollow or overdone look.
Arm liposuction or an arm lift? (Candidacy)
Liposuction removes fat, not loose skin. Your skin quality decides which option fits you.
You’re likely a good candidate for awake arm liposuction if: – Your upper arms have pinchable fat with fairly firm skin – The skin springs back when gently pinched – You’re at or near a stable weight – You’re healthy and don’t smoke, or are willing to stop
An arm lift (brachioplasty) may be more appropriate if: – You’ve lost a lot of weight, including with GLP-1 medications, and have loose, hanging skin (“bat wings”) with little fat underneath – The skin hangs down when your arm is raised, even though there isn’t much to pinch
An arm lift removes skin through an incision along the inner arm, usually under general anesthesia, and it isn’t one of our awake procedures. Some patients with mild laxity see improvement with laser-assisted liposuction, which can encourage some skin contraction. See Smart Lipo on arms. Results vary. Dr. Johnson will examine your arms and tell you honestly whether liposuction can give you a result you’ll be happy with.
How the awake procedure works
- Marking: with your arms in several positions, so we see the fat as it looks in daily life.
- Numbing: tumescent local anesthesia is placed in each arm. You’re awake, and oral comfort medication is available.
- Contouring: fine cannulas are placed through tiny openings, often near the elbow and armpit, to remove fat evenly. Because you can move your arm when asked, symmetry is easier to check.
- Home the same day: you go home in arm compression sleeves (purchased separately) with a companion.
Pricing
- Arms: $3,500
- Pricing includes local anesthesia and the in-office procedure, with no anesthesiologist or hospital fee.
- Combining arms with the back, axilla or other areas is quoted at your consultation.
- Compression sleeves are not included; they’re purchased separately (recommended options).
- 0% financing up to 24 months for qualified patients.
Recovery
- First 48 hours: expect some drainage, swelling and tightness. Keep your arms gently moving.
- Days 2–4: most patients return to desk work. Wear your compression sleeves as directed.
- Weeks 2–3: bruising fades; light activity as cleared.
- Weeks 4–6: return to upper-body workouts as cleared.
- Months 1–3: swelling resolves and the new shape becomes clear. The final result is typically assessed around 3–6 months.
Compression is especially important for arms because it helps the skin adapt smoothly. Read our guide to arm compression garments after liposuction.
Use your arm fat for natural curves
Fat removed from the arms and back can often be used for an awake fat transfer breast augmentation or fat transfer to the face, depending on how much is available.
Pair it with other areas
- Back liposuction: axilla (armpit fat) pairs naturally with the arms. The same page covers the mid back (bra roll) and upper back
- Abdomen and flanks: see awake liposuction
- Men: arm and chest contouring with male breast reduction
- Higher-BMI patients: large-volume liposuction

FAQ
How much does arm liposuction cost in Dallas? $3,500, including local anesthesia and the in-office procedure. 0% financing is available.
Will arm lipo get rid of “bat wings”? If the fullness is mainly fat, liposuction can make a clear difference. If it’s mostly loose, hanging skin, an arm lift is usually the right procedure, and we’ll tell you honestly.
Are there visible scars? The openings are a few millimeters wide, usually near the elbow or in the armpit, and typically fade over time.
How soon can I work out? Light walking right away; upper-body training usually around 4–6 weeks, as cleared.
Does it hurt? The arms are numbed with local anesthesia. Most patients feel pressure rather than pain, and soreness afterward similar to an intense arm workout.
Is the result permanent? Removed fat cells don’t return. Keeping your weight stable helps maintain your new shape.
Can men get arm liposuction? Yes. Men often combine arms with the chest or flanks.
