What Is Fraxel?

As we said, Fraxel Laser Is an FDA-approved laser skin resurfacing treatment that can help you achieve your skin goals. Fraxel is a nonablative type of laser, which means it works by heating the treatment area instead of destroying it as ablative lasers do. This approach helps to stimulate the body’s production of collagen to help create new tissue to erase fine lines and wrinkles and pull the skin tighter.

What Should You Know about Fraxel:

You should limit photosensitivity. Before your Fraxel procedure, we recommend that you stop taking or using products or medications that make your skin photosensitive – after talking to your doctor. Also, you should limit your sun exposure, too. Doing this for at least two weeks before your treatment can help limit the potential for burns. Let us know if you have you ever had a cold sore. Sometimes the stress of Fraxel can cause a cold sore flare-up in the area where you’ve had them before. We can give you medication to help prevent this from occurring. Fraxel is not for everyone. Some individuals undergoing Accutane treatment or who have had Accutane treatment in the last six months, who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, taken antibiotics, using retinol, have a sunburn or suspicious lesions are not or may not be candidates for the procedure. Know what to expect after the procedure. Your face will likely feel very warm. Use cold packs on the treatment area for 20-minute increments several times a day. You may have swelling after the procedure. To minimize this, keep your head up when lying down. Stay hydrated. Drink water and avoid alcohol and caffeinated beverages for a few days after the procedure. Stay out of the sun for a few weeks. Cover up and put on sunscreen after treatment – use an SPF of 30 at minimum. It’s going to peel. Your old skin will peel off after the process, revealing new skin underneath. DO NOT pick or peel your skin, as you can cause scarring, discoloration or infection.
