Pregnancy, aging, and weight loss can do a number on our bodies. The loose skin that is left behind can now be tightened, in one treatment, while you are awake, without surgery, and without any downtime. Thermage Skin Tightening for the body has shown some of the most impressive results. Results where you really need to look closely to make sure it’s the same person in the before and after photos.
How did my skin get loose?
As we age, gain weight, or have children, our collagen tends to thin and stretch. Just like an elastic waistband, with enough stretch, it will eventually lose its elasticity. In the skin, the stretched collagen results in loose skin. The main areas where this is noticed are in the abdomen, upper arms, and thighs. The knees, in particular, tend to bunch the skin on the front thigh. We call these the “tennis knees”.

How does Thermage work?
Thermage delivers radiofrequency energy to large body areas such as the face, arms, abdomen, and thighs. Thermage uses radiofrequency energy to deliver the deepest collagen remodeling available today and is considered the “gold standard” for non-surgical skin tightening. The applied heat or energy causes collagen to contract and encourages new collagen to start growing. This helps create smoother tighter skin and it can all be done in one treatment. The procedure is completely non-invasive with no surgery or injections and is performed in an outpatient setting.
Who is an ideal candidate for Thermage?
Thermage is appropriate for people with loose, saggy, or crepe-like skin. These conditions can be caused by:
- Normal aging process
- Sun-damaged skin that has lost elasticity
- Weight loss that resulted in loose skin
- Post liposuction in order to improve skin tightening
Both men and women can benefit from Thermage. There are no ethnicity restrictions for using Thermage for skin tightening.
How long does the treatment procedure take?
A Thermage treatment takes around two (2) hours per tip. For example, treating the face, eyes, and neck take around 2 hours whereas treating arms or thighs may take up to four (4) hours depending on the number of Thermage tips being used during the treatment. Treatments are done in an outpatient setting and while you are awake. You may want to have some medication to minimize discomfort in the large body areas. If you take medication you will need to have a driver.
When do you see Thermage results?
Thermage results are seen instantly in 85% of patients. 94% of patients are happy with their results and recommend Thermage to their friends. On average patients appear four (4) to six (6) years younger when using a face Thermage treatment. On treating a body area you can expect a 1-2 inch size reduction on the abdomen and around 1-inch size reduction on the thighs and arms. Creepiness also tends to improve on thighs and arms. The results will continue to improve over the next six (6) to twelve (12) months.

How Thermage Tightens Loose Skin
To tighten the skin back, the damaged collagen is heated. Thermage Skin Tightening does this using the RF energy, targeting the water that hugs the collagen fibers. Once this water is heated above 40 Celsius, the collagen (protein-based) contracts. This gives an immediate result in tightening that studies show is visible over 85% of the time. The contracted collagen kick starts the body’s own rebuilding system and grows new, thicker, more elastic collagen in place. The new collagen then contracts, and furthers the skin tightening process. The entire process takes 6-12 months. The result is smooth, tight skin. Results can last for about 3-5 years, although the real answer is the skin ages normally once full tightness is achieved.
