Six Steps to Great Skin

Want A Great Skin?

Great skin does not just happen – it takes effort.
Do you look at your friends or favorite celebrities with envy over their flawless skin and wonder how they got it? Well, great skin doesn’t just happen – it requires a lot of nurturing and care over your lifetime. Here are six basic tips to get great skin:

Tip 1 To Great Skin: Say No to Sun

One of the top ways to get great skin for life is to protect it from the sun. Prolonged and frequent sun exposure can leave the skin with significant damage such as age spots, freckles, wrinkles and other problems. Prolonged sun exposure also increases your risk of developing skin cancer. To protect your skin: Wear Sunscreen. Select a sunscreen with broad-spectrum blocking benefits and a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. For your face, we suggest a moisturizer-sunscreen combo. Apply every two hours or more frequently when swimming or sweating. Stay Inside. If you need to be in the sun, go out in the morning. Take care to avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., the time of day when the sun’s rays are the strongest. Cover-Up. If you can’t stay inside during peak sun times, cover your skin with long-sleeved shirts and pants. Also, wear a hat to protect your face.

Tip 2 To Great Skin: Don’t Smoke

Don’t Smoke or Quit Smoking. Now Like the sun, smoking causes skin damage such as wrinkles. This damage happens because smoking destroys the collagen and elastin fibers in your skin that allow it to stretch and contract. Smoking also causes your blood vessels to constrict, which means your skin doesn’t get the oxygen and blood it needs to be healthy. Like the sun, smoking also increases the chances of skin cancer.

Tip 3 To Great Skin: Use Gentle Cleansing Products

Clean gently soaps and cleansers with warm water is the best for your skin. Strong cleansers and too-hot water temperatures strip the skin of its protective oils.  After cleaning, apply a gentle moisturizer.

Tip 4 For Great Skin: Eat Healthy Foods

Although the connection between diet and skin isn’t clear, eating healthy can help keep your skin clear and blemish-free. Try to eat vegetables and fruits, whole grains and lean meats like chicken and fish. Drink water to help keep your skin hydrated.

Tip 5 For Great Skin: Reduce Your Stress

Stress wreaks havoc on all parts of your body – including your skin. Manage stress by getting enough sleep, making sure you take time to relax and exercise.
