Study Reveals a Few Surprises About Aging

When you think about women and how they feel about aging, you probably think that most women are ready to run, not walk, to their cosmetic surgeon at the first sign of wrinkles, right? But, is it true?

A new study by Allure and the AARP says not exactly. The study focused on how women feel about aging, beauty and how the media portrays women and the aging process.

To find out if these conventions had merit, the two collaborating groups behind the study asked 2,000 women between the ages of 21 and 72 what they really thought about their age.

Drinking Water Keeps Skin Looking Youthful

Drinking Water Keeps Skin Looking Youthful

Making sure you are drinking enough water every day contributes to good health. Water helps your body do everything from digesting the food you eat to eliminating waste and toxins. Water is also one of the best anti-aging treatments available and helps keep your skin looking healthy, youthful and bright.

What Happens to Your Skin If You Don't Drink Enough Water?
Water hydrates your skin cells and helps to give them their shape. So when you’re not drinking enough water, your skin can become dry, flaky and dull. Not drinking enough water also reduces the skin's ability to stretch and retract, which makes it more likely that you will develop wrinkles, fine lines and creases.

Vampire Facial: Gorgeous Skin With Nothing to Fear

The vampire facial is not as scary as it sounds. In fact, once you learn about its amazing benefits, you may want to call us to schedule your appointment. The vampire facial, also known as the PRP facial, is a powerful anti-aging treatment used by Dr. Johnson to erase skin damage, fine lines and wrinkles, and give you great-looking skin for eternity - or at least a really long time.

What Happens During the Vampire PRP Facial?
During the vampire facial, Dr. Johnson takes a small amount of blood (hence its name) and separates out the platelets along with growth factors from the rest of the blood cells. Platelets are plate-shaped cells in the blood that form blood clots in response to damaged blood vessels. Growth factors are powerful chemical "text messages" that tell the body to repair tissue and promote healing. This platelet and growth factor combination is known as PRP, or platelet-rich plasma.

Can Sunscreen Prevent Skin Damage?

In 2012, new rules from the Food and Drug Administration took effect governing label information regarding sunscreen. Included in the new rules are defining the term “broad spectrum.” And so, it means sunscreen offers protection from both ultraviolet UVA and ultraviolet B – ultraviolet A and B – in proportional amounts. Before, sunscreens did not address UVA radiation which causes skin cancer and early aging, but not necessarily the tell-tale signs of sunburn.

Additionally, claims such as waterproof, sweat-proof sunblock are no longer allowed. Sonya Lunder, Senior Analyst at Environmental Working Group says, despite greater awareness of the damage sun can do and products with higher sun protection factors, melanoma rates are still increasing.
