Study Reveals a Few Surprises About Aging

Study Reveals a Few Surprises About Aging

When you think about women and how they feel about aging, you probably think that most women are ready to run, not walk, to their cosmetic surgeon at the first sign of wrinkles, right? But, is it true?

A new study by Allure and the AARP says not exactly. The study focused on how women feel about aging, beauty and how the media portrays women and the aging process.

Some common stereotypes about women and aging are that many women choose to deny their age and others do anything they can to avoid aging entirely. To find out if these conventions had merit, the two collaborating groups behind the study asked 2,000 women between the ages of 21 and 72 what they really thought about their age.

Beating the Drum for Botulinum Toxin Type A

These products are so popular that more than 10 million vials have been sold since 2002, and there were 7.2 million botulinum toxin type A injections performed in the United States in 2017. Why are these minimally invasive injectables so popular? Find out in this blog from Innovations Medical.

Don't Skip This Step Before Bedtime

Don't Skip This Step Before Bedtime

Do you sleep in your makeup? Did you know that it is really bad for your skin? While once in awhile is not terrible, did you know that making a habit of not washing your makeup off before bed can mean rashes, blemishes, acne and premature aging? While these things may seem relatively benign, wearing makeup to bed can also mean serious consequences. One Australian woman found out how serious wearing makeup to bed can be - after not washing off her mascara for 25 years, she developed hard deposits of mascara that were permanently stuck in her eyelids and scratching her eyeballs. While her story is extremely rare, not washing your makeup off is a mistake you just don't want to make.

What Happens When You Don't Wash Your Makeup Off?
Breakouts Happen. Going to bed wearing your makeup means that your pores get clogged! Makeup, dirt, dead skin and pollution get stuck in your pores and cause breakouts. Not washing your face can also make existing acne worse.

The Mechanics of Wrinkles

The Mechanics of Wrinkles

No one wants to talk about it, but it happens to everyone and is almost as certain as death and taxes: aging. Unless you have the luck of amazing genes, aging - and most notably, wrinkles - is nearly unavoidable. Wrinkles are not only a part of aging, but also make a difference in how we take care of our skin, what cosmetics we choose and even the clothes we wear.

But what causes wrinkles? Researchers at the University of Southampton's Centre for Advanced Tribology in conjunction with scientists from the Biomechanics and Mechanobiology Laboratory at the University of Cape Town set out to answer this question using a very surprising approach: biomechanics.

Scientists from the schools created a series of quantitative computer models to create 3-D models of wrinkles to help skin care researchers identify the physics involved in their development. The researchers hope that by identifying these characteristics, they could help to advance the development of new approaches to both treat existing wrinkles and prevent new ones from forming.

Battle Eye Wrinkles With These Procedures

Battle Eye Wrinkles With These Procedures

Wrinkles around the eyes are usually one of the earliest indicators that the aging process has begun. The development of these frustrating fine lines is also a result of smoking, prolonged sun exposure, genetics and other lifestyle factors. Whatever the cause, these tiny wrinkles and fine lines can make you feel self-conscious about your appearance and make you look older. You may be tempted to temporarily cover them with makeup or over-the-counter eye creams. But if you’re tired of temporary fixes, you can find more permanent solutions for eye wrinkles at Innovations Medical.

Botox. Botox is one of the best ways to treat wrinkles around the eyes because it weakens the muscles of the face that contribute to the development of wrinkles from moving. Weakening the muscles helps to make the fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes disappear. Many people see the results of their Botox procedure very quickly. Botox lasts between three and six months for most people.

Fraxel Laser. Fraxel laser therapy is also an excellent option to erase lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Fraxel laser works by stimulating new skin growth. The new skin pushes out old skin and accelerates the production of collagen. This increased production of collagen has a skin tightening effect which smooths out wrinkles. Fraxel laser therapy has little to no downtime and is perfect for targeting specific areas of the face and body. Results of Fraxel laser therapy last about two to four years.

Cosmetic Procedures May Boost Success and Confidence

Cosmetic Procedures May Boost Success and Confidence

People who have had a face-lift are perceived by others to be more successful and healthier than their peers who did not have a face-lift, according to a recent study by Johns Hopkins University.

How Does a Face-Lift Factor Into Success?
The study also shows that those who have had face-lift procedures may also get out of traffic tickets, have more favorable court decisions, be offered jobs and even be elected to political office at greater rates than those who have not had the procedure.
