Don't Skimp on Skin Care
A British woman found out that cheaper isn’t always better, especially when it comes to getting dermal fillers. The woman took advantage of an offer for discount lip injections advertised on social media by an unregulated and unlicensed salon and ended up with serious complications. While we know everyone loves a bargain, injectables and skin care are not where you want to go cheap. Dr. Johnson is a board-certified physician licensed to perform high-quality cosmetic and aesthetic procedures, and although they may cost a little more, they are worth every penny.
A facial or skin rejuvenating treatment at your neighborhood salon or a friend’s at-home spa party can be tempting. But while these options may seem fun, convenient or less expensive at the time, you may end up paying more in the end. Letting a friend of a friend of a friend who watched her cousin do skin treatments once is not a good idea. You could be putting your skin in the hands of people who have no business touching it.
If the person performing your procedure is unlicensed and lacks the proper training or experience to do your chemical peel, microdermabrasion, laser skin procedure or any other cosmetic procedure, you could end up with serious damage like scarring or hyperpigmentation. This damage may be costly to fix, or may not be fixable at all. Using only licensed providers trained in skin care procedures protects you from the risk of irreversible skin damage.
More invasive cosmetic procedures, like dermal fillers or Botox, are injected under the skin and require anatomical knowledge to ensure they are safely and properly placed. Proper placement also ensures that results are maximized and you look great. Improper placement of these injectables means you could end up with lumps, bumps or an odd-looking "frozen face." Using a licensed provider also means you are getting the real thing and not bootleg Botox or a fake filler.
In the case of the British mom whose lips were nearly permanently damaged, it is suspected that the unlicensed beautician who administered the filler injected it into an artery. The result was a blockage and extreme swelling that, if left untreated, could have caused tissue death, infection and disfigurement.
