We hear a lot more about the medical research strive of stem cells. Even former athletes are seeking out this type of therapy. Dr. Bill Johnson of Innovations Medical says stem cells are becoming part of the conversation in medicine. One of the main reasons for that is everything that the body heals is related to stem cells.
For example, when you cut your finger, the damaged cells release growth factors – chemical messengers that call all the things you need to clean up the damaged cells and stem cells then heal the wound. The same process happens when you break a bone or in any type of healing. It’s incredible what can be done with stem cells.
GLORIA: Hello! I’m Gloria Campos and I’m here at Innovations Medical with Dr. Bill Johnson.
You know, we’ve heard a lot about stem cells. You know, there’s been controversies surrounding it. There’s myth, mystery about stem cells, a bit of controversy. We’re going to separate the fact and fiction from stem cells, remove the mystery, and talk about the facts here and how stem cells and stem cell therapy is helping people heal.
Do you want to give yourself a great holiday gift and make most of your free time? Dr. Bill Johnson of Innovations Medicals has some great ideas!
Holiday season is the best time for office based procedures because they are simple, done with local anesthesia and require very little downtime; one or two days off is enough! Another good reason to do these procedures during holiday season is that you see the final results after about six months, which is swimsuit season. That’s why now is the time to think about the summer.
Many of us have heard of stem cells, but what are they, where do they come from and why all the excitement? Dr. Johnson of Innovations Medical explains everything you need to know about stem cells.
Dr. Johnson explains that if you cut a finger, the cells that are damaged release chemical messengers to call other cells in to do the healing and stimulate the stem cells in the area that produce the new growth. All the healing is done by stem cells and if we could harness that, we could cause healing for injuries and diseases. The fascinating features of stem cells are that you can make more stem cells from one cell and it can also become any type of cell. By adding more stem cells to the injury, we can repair the damage.
Stem cell therapy offers fascinating alternatives to surgery, but it can be difficult to know which type to get. Consultation is an important part of developing a plan to meet the unique needs of each patient. In a recent television interview, Dr. Johnson answered questions about stem cell therapy. Here's what he had to say.
HOST: Stem cells – we’ve heard a lot about them in recent medical stories but what are they and where do they come from and why all the excitement? A lot of questions so let’s get some answers.
Fat transfer is a great way to get the shape you want using your own fat, but did you know fat can also be used for other things as well. Using embryonic stem cells in medical research is a controversial topic. Using adult stem cells to cure disease has nothing to do with embryos and is showing great promise for curing a wide variety of chronic conditions. As Lesley Mouton shows us, doctors are using stem cells to heal without surgery.
Elsa Rosa can’t walk without pain. Doctors say she needs two knee replacements. Instead, she’s trying something new: stem cells harvested from her own body to heal her knee.
As we age, our bodies go through a lot of changes and decline as time passes. Unfortunately, our cells’ healing abilities go down as well. If only it was easy to fix with glue or adhesive tape, right? There is, however, an investigational study for fat stem cell therapy being conducted by Innovations Medical to help us out of this predicament. Dr. Johnson talks about it in this video.
According to Dr. Johnson, a stem cell is a single cell that can replicate itself or differentiate into many cell types. The embryo is actually composed of stem cells that end up becoming the tissues and organs in our bodies. Every time our body needs a new cell, it’s the stem cell’s role to do that. Their ability to self-renew is very important in the healing process of our bodies. As we age, we lose a good supply of stem cells and that is where fat stem cell therapy comes in. It harnesses the stem cell’s ability to self-multiply and deliver to a part of our body that doesn’t heal well.
In this video, Dr. Johnson is joined by Karen, one of the winners of the Innovations Medical’s year-long makeover journey. Melanie, the other winner, was not able to make it but the pictures show a lot of improvement on her body as well. A mother of 4 children, Melanie got help with her baby belly and sagging breasts by liposuction-assisted tummy and breast fat transfer.
Karen, on the other hand, is looking happy and fab after the makeover. Dr. Johnson explained the procedures done on her and how it helped Karen get the look she wants. On her face and thighs, thermage was done to lift and tighten the loose tissues. Thermage uses radio frequency energy to tighten loose skin without the need for surgery.
In this Dr. J Off Air video, Amy Vanderoef interviews Melanie Mitchell, one of Innovations Medical's 2014 New Beginnings Makeover Winners, about her journey from entering the competition to the procedures she will undergo in the future.
Melanie Mitchell entered the competition because of several frustrations she had with several parts of her body, particularly her stomach and breasts. A mother of four, including a pair of twin, Melanie had been wanting a flat nice stomach and fuller breasts for the longest time. She had kept it a secret from her family and friends about her joining the competition. Now that she was chosen as one of the winners, her family and friends are all cheering her on and are all excited for her slow yet wonderful transformation.
