Americans want to get rid of unwanted fat more than ever before, according to new statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The organization's new numbers show that treatments aimed at eliminating fat and cellulite increased significantly in 2017.
Non-invasive fat-reduction treatments that utilize special technology to "freeze" away fat without surgery increased 7 percent.
Cellulite treatments were also popular in 2017, increasing nearly 20 percent over 2016.
Liposuction is not a weight loss tool, rather it is a way to re-sculpt and reshape the body. Many liposuction patients opt to have the procedure after significant weight loss, to remove stubborn fat that just won’t budge with diet and exercise. After liposuction, patients will see a new, shapelier physique. Patients can expect that their new shape will be fairly permanent - with some conditions.
Because liposuction removes fat cells permanently, the removed cells cannot come back. This does not mean, however, fat cannot return with enough weight gain. A small number of fat cells are always left during liposuction to protect the skin. These cells can grow substantially if weight gain of more than 15-20 lbs occurs and result in some loss of shape in the area of liposuction. Patients who gain a small amount of weight after the procedure may see an increase in the size of their shape, but will retain their shape – their existing fat cells will simply get larger with weight gain.
Although waist training is a practice that dates back to the 14th century, it is currently a growing trend across the United States. Credit for its reemergence in modern culture can be given the Kardashians. In recent years, many women across the U.S. have followed suit of the sisters and jumped on the waist training bandwagon to reduce their waistlines and look thinner. While this practice is gaining popularity, women who are considering waist training should proceed with caution.
Waist training, also known as waist taming, is the practice of wearing a waist trainer or a corset to squeeze the waist into an hourglass shape. Waist trainers are made of tight-fitting latex, fabric and some have steel "bones" designed to help hold the hourglass shape. Some manufacturers recommend that users wear their trainers two to four hours a day until the user can tolerate wearing it for an entire 24 hour period.
Waist training proponents make claims that the practice helps wearers effortlessly and instantaneously achieve an hourglass aesthetic. However, many wearers report wearing their trainers for several months but see little to no results. Also, many pro-taming advocates also claim additional benefits of being able to increase the metabolisms and burn fat.
Many women look to tone their midsection after reaching their goal weight or after having children. Some patients choose the traditional tummy tuck approach, but many patients simply have not considered abdominoplasty in the past because of the significant downtime required for recovery. These patients now have an easier option with the Awake Tummy Tuck procedure. Dr. Johnson performs the Awake Tummy Tuck procedure in the office at Innovations Medical.
Abdominoplasty, also known as the tummy tuck, is a major surgery. Traditional tummy tuck procedures require general anesthesia, and also result in significant downtime post-op. When the abdominal muscles are sutured during the procedure to tighten the midsection, the recovery from a traditional tummy tuck is extended further, and it can be several months before you get back to your normal routine. You will not be able to drive a car or even sit upright for a period after surgery, which will mean time off work and avoiding activities for up to six weeks.
Depending on how extensive the tummy tuck procedure, full recovery can take from three to six months. Traditional abdominoplasty can cause nerve damage which results in numbness.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in 2015, more than 1.5 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the United States. Of those procedures, liposuction ranked as the second most popular form of cosmetic surgery, experiencing a 5% increase from 2014. Most consider traditional liposuction a major surgical procedure, requiring the patient to undergo sedation using general anesthesia. Additionally, traditional liposuction procedures require lengthy and often painful recovery times. SmartLipo, a less invasive form of liposuction, allows patients to achieve the slimming results they desire without the risks associated with major surgery. The demand for cosmetic surgery continues to rise. With SmartLipo, patients experience faster recovery times and forgo certain risks associated with general anesthesia. SmartLipo patients experience the benefits from body contouring, producing a more high-definition look with with these factors minimized.
SmartLipo is unique because it’s less invasive in comparison to traditional liposuction. The procedure uses a laser to melt away localized fat. After making a small incision, a trained physician inserts a laser into the treatment area, vaporizing and liquefying unwanted fat. The physician is able to perform better, more defined shaping and contouring using this method.
As a board certified physician, Dr. Bill Johnson of Innovations Medical was the first cosmetic physician in Texas to offer this minimally invasive procedure to his patients wishing to remove excess fat from targeted area. Johnson has performed the procedure longer than any other physician in the Dallas area, and because of his extensive experience with SmartLipo, he’s seen the successful results first-hand.
You’ve put in the work at the gym, completely overhauled your diet and the numbers on the scale have slowly decreased. You’re stronger, healthier, and after months of dedication, you’ve hit your target weight. But while you’re feeling fit and (mostly) fabulous, all of those crunches and targeted ab workouts have done little to shrink the access fat on the sides of waistline. It’s a common problem Dr. Johnson sees with many of his patients. And while traditional liposuction has been a tried and true go-to for people looking to get rid of those pesky love handles, the procedure is becoming less and less attractive for people who are looking for something far less invasive. Traditional liposuction requires the patient to be put under general anesthesia, which comes with a range of risks. Tumescent liposuction, on the other hand, is a little different.
What is tumescent liposuction?
Tumescent liposuction is a form of liposuction done under local anesthesia and mild sedation. Its name is derived from the Latin word “tumescens,” meaning “swollen,” and it refers to the manner in which the anesthesia is achieved: a special fluid is pumped into the surgical area until the area becomes firm or swollen.

You've been working hard at the gym and dieting and the results are still not showing. But don’t worry; Dr. Bill Johnson of Innovations Medical has the solution for you.
Even though you’ve been working out at the gym, your muffin top still shows and you feel really frustrated about it. The problem is, some of us just have genetics that make the fat go there and the only way to remove that way is with liposuction or other technologies.
Looking good in low cut jeans can be tough, especially if the fat on your sides and back bulges on your waistband. This is the dreaded muffin top that keeps us from looking sexy in our jeans. Dr. Johnson of Innovations Medical explains that liposuction is the best solution for this body issue. The procedure is very safe and can be done in the office. You can go home the same day and there is very little downtime as well.
For excess or sagging skin, thermage is the go-to procedure. It is a non-invasive procedure that will not only tighten your skin, it will renew the collagen in your body as well. This will result in further tightening months after the procedure has been performed. The technology uses radio frequency in order to safely heat your skin’s dermis and is very safe. As for saddlebags, the fat on the side of your hips and glutes, liposuction would also be the right solution according to Dr. Johnson. Once that fat is removed, you can easily slide in your jeans and look fitter than ever.
It’s sure is nice to get some Jello on a hot summer day, right? It jiggles, it wiggles, it's fun to eat. But when it comes to our bodies, we definitely don't want our bodies to wobble like that tasty treat.
Fortunately, Innovations Medical has office-based procedures that can take care of those wobbly areas for you.
In this video, Dr. Johnson gives in-depth details and benefits about those procedures.
Are you’re still working your tail off at the gym to remove unwanted fats in your stomach and arms without seeing results? If you’re getting frustrated, liposuction is a great procedure to consider. You can even pair two areas of your body to look your best.
In this video, Dr. Bill Johnson of Innovations Medical explains why adding two areas together for liposuction is like adding icing to a cake. A cake alone is tasty, but topping it with icing makes it irresistible. And the same goes for liposuction.
From sexy bikinis and belly shirts, to sleeveless dresses and cropped blouses, these outfits will make sure you’re comfortable and smoking hot during the summer season. But are you confident enough to bare your stomach? If you have a little bit of wrinkling or need some serious shaping, Innovations Medical has the right procedure for you and this video will tell you all about it.
Using a thermometer-like scale, Dr. Johnson starts with the most non-invasive procedure for people that needs just a little bit of help. For wrinkling and a little bit of droopiness, Thermage is a great go-to process. It uses radio frequency energy to tighten loose skin without the need for surgery. Some instant tightening will be noticed right after the procedure, but the benefits will continue months after. Because of the heating, three to four times more collagen will be produced and these will mature after three to six months. It will cause further skin tightening or collagen remodeling. There’s also no downtime so you can just go back to work the next day.
Still sweating it out in the gym to remove that unwanted saddlebag or love handles? If you’re getting tired of the workouts, you might be considering liposuction. But what about the misconceptions and horror stories about this cosmetic procedure? These misgivings can be attributed to the fact that liposuction is a frequently performed procedure, and the more people talk, the more inaccurate the perceptions become. Some perceived issues don't even exist. In this video, Dr. Bill Johnson answers the most common questions about liposuction.
Is Liposuction Safe?
One well-known case that involved liposuction was Donda West’s death a few years ago. She was the mother of the famous rapper Kanye West. What some people don’t know though is that aside from liposuction, she underwent a face lift and breast augmentation as well. If you look at the data for liposuction with local anesthesia alone, there has yet to be a documented death in the United States. Take note, this is from over several hundred thousand cases performed over the last twenty five years. So it's fair to say that liposuction a very safe procedure.
Women who are more confident with how they look tend to be happier and have more positive outlooks in life. That’s exactly what New Beginnings Makeover winners, Karen and Melanie, felt after undergoing several procedures at Innovations Medical.
Last month, Dr. Johnson presented the life-changing process that Karen underwent. Karen, who underwent a facial fat transfer, looks like a younger version of herself. Thermage was performed to lift and tighten the loose tissues on her skin. In addition to that, CO2 resurfacing, which uses ultra pulsed light energy to specifically remove thin layers of skin, erased her wrinkles and fine lines. To shape her up, liposuction was done on her tummy, flanks, and inner thighs. The fat harvested was then transferred to her buttocks and face.
With recent innovations in liposuction and more people attesting to the safeness of this procedure, it has gained a lot of following. But what is really going inside your body during the fat removal process? In this video, Dr. Johnson explains the liposuction procedure at Innovations Medical.
During the suctioning of the fat, not all of it is removed from the area. They are kind of like “Swiss-cheesing it,” as Dr. J puts it. Small holes are done in the area to remove the fat, but the connecting tissues that support the fat is left behind. This is a good thing, because this is what makes the tissue and skin healthy.
After the holidays, you see a lot of people hitting the gym to exercise away all the extra calories they have consumed. Sure, you can shed a few pounds, but it takes a lot of perseverance and sacrifice. Plus, it wouldn’t fix all your problem areas. In this video, Dr. Johnson explains the various go-to procedures that Innovation Medical offers in order to speed up that sexy or 6-pack body you want.
Quinn, a frequent gym attendee shares that he still has problems shaping up his abdominal area. He also has challenges getting rid of man boobs and love handles. Dr. Johnson adds that for most men like Quinn, the problem areas lie on the waist, abdomen and breasts. As for the women, their problem areas are on the waists and thighs. All of these can be addressed by liposuction. The procedures is performed in a sterile office environment under local anesthesia and treatment lasts for about an hour. For guys who want 6-pack, this is achievable through body sculpting.
When you pinch or slightly stretch your skin, it snaps back to its original form when you release it. There are times when it stretches to a point where it won’t return to its normal shape. This usually happens during post pregnancy or weight gain. In this video, Dr. Johnson shows how cosmetic procedures at Innovations Medical help you get your body back into shape.
In a demonstration using a plastic bag, Dr. Johnson stretches a white plastic bag to a point where it deformed. This is exactly what happens to the skin when it is subjected to stress like pregnancy or weight gain.
These days, both men and women are choosing to manage aging using cosmetic procedures. In this radio interview, Dr. Bill Johnson shares a variety of reasons why men and women get cosmetic work done.
FEMALE HOST: So, everybody was talking about Renee Zellweger the other day. She came out in public and people went, “That’s who?”
HOST: Have you seen the pictures of Renee Zellweger? I saw them first on Entertainment Tonight yesterday and, at first, I really couldn’t tell much of a difference. But, now, when I look a little more and I have more time than just three seconds to kind of look side by side, I can see some differences, but there’s also I think a little thing called “age” that comes into account and that is what Renee is saying. She’s like, “Hey, you know what? I’m older now. I’m glad that people think I look different, but some people think she has had a lot of work done.”
We are joined by Dr. Bill Johnson, a cosmetic surgeon.
